Hi, my name is Lindsay!
I have always been interested in computers from a very young age because they have flashing lights and spark endless possibilities. In 4th grade, I was first introduced to a block coding program called Scratch. We were first introduced to the program to create a "Makey Makey" project, where we coded a game that would work with buttons we created made from Play-Doh. At that time, I wanted to create games. So, I continued my adventure in games and began to play a game called Minecraft.
My interest in Minecraft and coding led me to take a summer school course in 6th grade entitled, My Minecraft: where we learned how to create mods for the game in the language JavaScript. This course was led by the company DevLeague. After this course, I continued with DevLeague to their Junior program for the next three years, until they closed, where I learned Web Development - HTML, CSS, and JS.
Once I got to high school, I wanted to learn more about computers and programming. So I eventually built my first PC, which has evolved into my current computer. After that, I continued expanding my knowledge in computer science-related topics, such as programming, cyber security, and artificial intelligence.
I began to expand my connections with others by working on various projects and working with different groups. For example, at Punahou School, I was Tech Support for our yearbook, the co-founder of our computer science and coding club, and the founder of the school's Girls Who Code chapter. After working with these different people has taught me how to collaborate and communicate with different people.
Being able to enjoy games, like Minecraft, through coding inspired me to join our school's High School eSports Program and work with others to change how the club is perceived, including raising money to join the competitive leagues.
After working in DevLeague, I realized I enjoyed teaching others Web Development. Through my different clubs and being an AP Computer Science TA, I have been able to enhance and immerse myself in teaching others a topic I am passionate about.
