Aloha Action Aina Project

The Aloha Action Aina Project is a project that I did in Freshmen Biology. Due to COVID-19, we could not execute an in-person project; thus, it had to become digital. My project became a website I coded about the different Native and Canoe plants in Hawaii.

This project was done in seven parts: the proposal, plan, research, check-in, rough draft and feedback, the final project, and reflection. These different parts taught me how to work on a website and efficiently display information.

As seen, this project consists of 1000+ lines of code that create the website and the many different pages by starting with research, then creating and styling the many different pages for plants. These pages have information about the different plants in Hawaii. The website can be used to teach others about the Canoe and Native plants. This project allowed for lots of reflection and ways to impact the community outside of a classroom setting.

The Three Project Objectives:
  • Create awareness, appreciation, accountability, and knowledge of Hawaii.
  • Apply to ecology and/or evolution.
  • Create a sense of place by honoring the intersection of culture, history, and ecology of Hawaii.
